Genuine question for people who were actually there or near the Mall this week... what was the vibe on the ground?
Because the gap between what was promised and what these photos show is so wide I keep waiting for someone to explain what I'm missing.
Either this was the most underreported flop in modern presidential history or there's context that isn't making it into these images. What did you see?
There were lots of people at the Lincoln Memorial in the early eve on Sunday, and it was happy enough, normal. On the Mall it was kind of empty and just weird. The "Fair" pavilions block the views and it is not clear what they are because they are like mini fake stone buildings with no windows and all uniform -- there is no character to them or thing of interest except the Ferris Wheel, which is an OK idea and additive for the celebration, if it were not for all the fences and police and guards. The fending all kind of kills the buzz. Like, what's the point of public spaces when they are full of chain link fencing and not great to look at.
What are the chances that one of the 36 people who were there subscribe to this substack , and if one if them does (1 in 300 million) what are the chances that they’ll see your question? You need a larger n.
Like everything the pig does it sounds great until he does it. Pity that he’s destroying our celebration of the 250th but like Trump you do it his way or it sucks. Personally I will not celebrate our nation until the one destroying it is gone, Trump gone his cabinet gone his advisors gone and then let the prosecution of their many crimes begin. And, because all these monied people lawyer up that might take years. But, I’m patient and only when they are gone and locked up will I have cause to celebrate. After that we must all work hard to undo the damage the Republicans whom are really Trumplicans have done.
Ya, I drove by on a motorcycle on Sunday, and we could hear music from the big stage there during our walk by the Lincoln Memorial (by the way the Reflecting Pool was no longer green but it was all fenced off, maybe for the upcoming fireworks planning). We concluded that the announcers must have been still testing the equipment or something, because there was nobody around and it truly looked uninspiring. We went for dinner on Cap Hill and then drove by again but it did not look any different.
We the Peeps would like to see how much money that he stole for his friends and others during this con.
The Ferris wheel stopped working and there was still nobody in line. That's not a metaphor. That's just what happened.

I was there
And then I heard on the news that some official was announcing "all the people" and I thought it was a joke ... literally
I'm going to celebrate but I don't know where I'm right outside the city
I figured that they were pretty good and I got an answer pretty quickly.

We have a President who believes that self-advertisement and national celebration are interchangeable.
One of the key elements of fascism is the deliberate blurring of the difference between The Leader and The State.
It might be fascism if:
There is a strongman leader
He blurs the divide between The Leader and the state
He offers simple solutions to complex problems
He blames the marginalized as scapegoats
He makes emergency declarations to assume power
He holds huge rallies
He calls on supporters to lock up his opponents
He calls the press the enemy of the state
He claims you are either with him or against him
At least P.T Barnum's "Greatest Show on Earth" gave the attendees something to look at and enjoy...
Oh, so very well done!!!
