It’s not just protests—Democratic officials nationwide are blocking Trump’s ICE crackdown and pushing back against his assault on democracy and decency
Apparently ICE has always violated people’s constitutional rights, long before trump. It isn’t salvageable. Even if we get rid of it, these people should be prosecuted and disgraced.
CBP has always been as bad or worse. ICE has probably been just as bad, but CBP was averaging one arrest every 24-36 hours -- *of one of its officers* -- for years.
CBP was out of control during the Obama years too, but the reason you didn't hear about it was because it was all happening at the *border*, not during armed occupations of American cities.
And somewhere Osama bin Laden is yukking it up with his 77 virgins because he jump-scared us into creating ICE and CBP -- and DHS. The whole department came about as a knee-jerk reaction to 9/11.
The description here of what is happening to pregnant women, new mothers, and their babies is frighteningly similar to what happened to the young girls who were raped and impregnated by the Epstein criminals. Add to that the reports of the rapes being committed by renegade ICE agents. When are these monsters going to be stopped???
Very encouraging that states are actively looking for ways to limit ICE's boundless power. I want them to be required to obey local laws. That offers some control. And hopefully enables states/cities to hold ICE accountable whereas now, there is no accountability required by federal government. Of course there isn't, they are trump's personal military police force/gestapo. I do believe they have always been a lawless, renegade agency, mostly working borders with no oversight. But now they are working for a regime that itself is evil and bigoted so anything goes. Also, many of these military police are J6ers with criminal records and power hungry wannabe military. The whole DHS Department has to be gutted and rebuilt from ground up. It is too broken to fix. Let's hope that all that was learned in Chicago and Minneapolis helps cities and states from this point on. Hope, we have to have unending hope - it's eternal!
Yes prosecute them. Consider permitting local police involvement (and perhaps State National Guard too) to protect state residents from unconstitutional, unlawful acts by ICE / CBP agents. There may be problems with local official armed resistance against federal (criminal) agents but having local cops (or Guard) on hand to gum up the federal works might be effective resistance.
