YMCA would be great. This Land would be great (all the verses). Dancing to La Bamba would be great.

"Lived among us for generations"? Many blacks were here before most white immigrants. The first African slaves arrived in Jamestown Virginia in 1619. There were over 4 million American slaves in 1860. The ancestors of Native Americans arrived here at least 15,000 years ago. Apparently the Civil War is not over. Slavery supposedly ended in 1865. The slave states (and some previously Union ones) are now MAGA. But our current war is the ultra wealthy against everyone else-white, black, or brown. Trump and the GOP don't care about what you believe if you are not a millionaire or evangelical Christian. Ask the white federal employees who were terminated by DOGE. United we stand, divided we fall. Yes, we are not going anywhere.

Mexican flags aren't bad, but they're certainly a bad idea. I speak as a descendant of a family that has spoken Spanish in California literally since the first Spaniard walked in in 1769; my mother's generation was the first raised in English in some branches of the family, in other branches it was my generation. So I understand "we didn't cross the border, the border crossed us" quite literally.

Nonetheless, Mexican flags are part of the authoritarian script. They "foreignize" the issue, reinforce the immigrant as other, make the "invasion" claim visible. They just give B roll to the propagandists who seek to maintain support for these awful policies. The American flag highlights the fact that this is a dispute over American values and the behavior of the American government. The California and LA flags are great. I don't condemn anyone who's carrying a Mexican flag - I certainly understand the sentiment. But it's still a bad idea. We need to tell our story, not provide visuals for the authoritarian justification.

Just sharing, hope you do not mind.

I honestly don’t see a difference between Al Qaeda and members supportive of the DNC at this point.

I would ask folks to not wave Mexican flags just to not be a target, to not agitate idiots to violence (which is likely to get a violent response from the flag waver being attacked. The'll claim it was a violent protest or riot and use that to justify sending in the marines. Besides we're all here advocating for a better AMERICA.
