As I am heading out to protest again, here in Minnesota, I thank you for your support and recognition that we need support here in Minnesota from everybody within the country. Thank you.

You are everyone of us in the US right now. Thank you for braving the cold and the regime!

The right part of this country is SO very proud of all of you . Your state is amazing. Soon it will travel to another one ( Maine?) We all need to be aware...

Good on you neighbor!

I thought of not paying taxes. What if they stop sending Social Security payments that people depend on, in retaliation?

Lawrence Winnerman's avatar

Local Mutual Aid. They may indeed retaliate. We will have to hold each other up--because if they do it, it means we are winning.

I won’t let Alex Pretti become a footnote guys!

For those interested, here is the link to what I mean guys, I wrote a dedicated and respectful article post in honor of Nurse Petti just earlier today: https://substack.com/@inahcastro/note/p-185778572?r=2wle9q&utm_source=notes-share-action&utm_medium=web

The time is long passed for right-thinking Americans to say NO to this sham of a POTUS and his band of suckophants! I am ready to do whatever is necessary to stop this travesty.

Thank you for those words. Here are the words of Bishop Gretchen Rehberg of the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane. Good ones also

Dear siblings in Christ, when I watch the videos of the killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, when I listen to how DHS reports on the incident vs what I can see from my own eyes from multiple view points of videos, I feel my anger rising. I am angry at what is happening and what I know will happen in response, and I am very anger at the quick vilification and justifying of the killing of Mr Pretti. Reports from DHS officials appear to be blatant lies. As the anger rises I also feel the darkness coming closer to my own soul, and I turned to prayer. Prayer first for Mr Pretti and his family. Prayer for the officers who stop him, for no one can kill another with no consequences to their souls. Prayers for this beloved country. I know that some, perhaps many, will say we don’t truly know what happened. That might be correct, but it is not an excuse to accept what happened. As followers of Jesus we must protect the weak, stand against oppression, and resist violence, and we must act always and only in love. So “be angry but do not sin.” I invite us to pray, and to act. +Gretchen

I hesitate to call them agents because imo it lends some legitimacy to them. And I also want to see more elected officials on the streets. I've always believed that actions speak louder than words

Does anyone have a link to any of the videos of the killing? It's not that I want to see them -- I don't. But I have to watch, so that I can tell my GOP father that he is hearing lies on FOX, and that I'm sure of it because I saw what happened with own eyes.

If your father might be willing to look at the NYT piece (gift link) - a frame by frame of the shooting? Posting this here and a video coming in a minute or two after I find one

CLS: here's a link to my post from yesterday, includes the AP text narrative of what happened and a video link. There are several "better" (if you will) videos and frame-by-frame breakdowns which, I think, can help explain things as they happened to those who are only seeing Faux News pieces. Wishing you well w your father.

I am very supportive of the way you have thought about this - clarity about goals, a set of escalating actions. I have some thoughts about the details, however, in view of the shamelessness of the regime and the unbearable cowardice of Republicans in Congress. I think that the quickest and easiest way of creating adequate pressure is to go directly to some version of step 5, which is not to say that financial support of Minnesota, for example, should be overlooked. I am skeptical that sustained protests will work, and in any case I am concerned about how long it will take to build that up to a level that might work. The rubric that a certain percentage of the populace being in the streets will topple an autocratic regime may not work with this level of shamelessness and cowardice. I think the only way forward is economic pressure on American corporate leadership, which has the leverage to bring down the government, whether through the 25th Amendment or impeachment or forced resignations. And I would expand your step 5, from those "corporations that profit from federal enforcement contracts, surveillance, detention, or logistics" to all corporations with which American consumers do business. Americans simply need to stop buying, except for necessities. Stop spending money and shut the economy down. This is something every single American can participate in, and can do without the personal risk of being shot in the streets, losing one's job, etc. And I think I would consolidate step 7 into step 5, so that it would include moving as miuch as possible of one's personal banking from national institutions to local banks, savings and loans or credit unions.

Thanks for your list of what Congress needs to do. I sent a strong note to my representative--David Schweikert of AZ-CD-01. I doubt he'll do anything but one can always hope.

Still waiting for the democrats to go on the attack. Every minute. Every day. Non-stop.

That's only going to happen if they're hearing from their constituents every single day. And even that's no guarantee.

Excellent Lawrence. Fantastic framework. So many of us are ready to move on this, but because we’ve been absorbed working & taking care of family, we’re not tapped in to the community resources for this level of activism. That said, so many have the personal resources to be very effective. For Californians specifically, friends, who’s ready? Let’s get started moving towards a sustainable strike in the state w/the fourth largest economy in the world.
