When talking about the Epstein case, in addition to talking about rape and sex trafficking, it’s also worth keeping at the forefront Howard Lutnick’s statement that Epstein was engaged in a blackmail operation to compromise powerful people. So many are limiting their discussion to the means vs. the actual goal that Lutnick reported.
Just saw the film "Nuremberg," and despite some of the critical reviews, I found one statement extremely relevant to current times. Rami Malek plays an American psychiatrist whose mission is to delve into the psyche of Herman Goering and figure out what makes him tick. Later, after he's returned to the US and civilian life, he repeatedly makes the statement that fascism (or, as he puts it, Nazism) is dormant but extant in all places, particularly in the US, and that we need to be vigilant about rooting it out.
The message for 2026 is the same as it (should have been?) during the shutdown.:
This is not a partisan issue. You have one side who voted for a bill that takes food away from hungry families and healthcare care away from working class Americans in order to make the richest white men in the world a little bit richer. They voted to throw you under the bus to serve their wealthy patrons. And this November you have the chance to return the favor by voting for the OTHER side. You now who they are. Their votes are on the record. And they haven’t been holding town halls, because they’re afraid to face you. And they SHOUD be. Because YOU have the real power. And there are WAY more of us than there are of them.
NC Dems flipped ~165 seats at the local/county level WITHOUT having a statewide race as a draw. And we don't have odd-year elections in every municipality or county. What I’m saying, odd-year elections don’t move the news needle here because they’re all hyper local. And this doesn’t count the seats they HELD, which when added to the flips came out to ~630-ish? (We didn’t have an election where I live so I wasn’t keeping track.)
If the Feckless Eight in the US Senate didn’t totally wreck things for us, and we maintain this momentum? Impeach and Remove is a viable possibility.
Curious if you will do a piece about the NYT article about the recent spread of the orthodox bro-focused church in the U.S. south. Orthodox Church isn’t traditionally a dominant sect in the U.S., especially inland south, not near Greek immigrant populations. Is it true that Russia uses this church as an arm of the government? Is there on-line social media messaging driving this trend? If so, is it funded domestically
