Hi Amplifiers!
Going into the long weekend I had a Friday convo with Jonathan Larsen, “Veteran journalist and TV news producer” (for names you know like Anderson Cooper, Keith Olbermann, Chris Hayes), which you can watch up above!
He writes “Jonathan Larsen’s Substack” and the cheeky “The Fucking News. The latter where he uses his talents and profanity to describe our profane times.
As you may know, I’m in the midst of a four-part series on who Dems need to be, how they must message and fight back and why so many who can help build the necessary infrastructure to do it seem to perpetually have their thumbs up their collective arses.
So far I’ve only written Part 1: Be Sherrod Brown, which got a warm reception from you kind folks. Jonathan agreed with some, disagreed with other parts. So we debated!
You can see how we began below, and the the rest of the transcript should be available to you here, if I understand the Substack machine correctly. Thanks!
Also, catch the convo David Shuster and I had on “Amped Up w/ Cliff Schecter” with Olivia Troye, during our usual Thursday edition of the show!
If you don’t know Olivia, she is Mike Pence’s Pence’s former National Security Advisor who quit in disgust over Trump’s Putin-fondling and basic treason.
Otherwise, have a great long weekend!
Cliff

CS: I'm happy to be here with Jon. Or Jonathan. Or whatever the f*k I’m supposed to call him. We're going to have some fun. And we’re going to talk about a piece I wrote.
We talked about the Democratic Party, one of the sort of three key themes of Blue Amp, or blueamp.co. Subscribe, please.
There's going to be a four-part series on what I think Democrats need to do to have an FDR-like romp. Whether they can do it, whether they will do it, are all questions.
The first one was that was just called Be Sherrod Brown. Pretty f*king easy, yeah? Not really. But easier than being Trump’s girdle—I hope it’s eligible for overtime pay under BBB!
IAC, I think I expounded upon why Sherrod is so effective, because he lives and breathes fire as a workers-first Democrat.
He doesn't pretend to be one. He doesn’t just start talking about it a couple of months before an election and say, yeah, I think that workers' rights would be great and important for us to talk about now.
He's out there on the picket lines. He wears a little canary pin he was given by a miner, canary in the coal mine kind of thing.
He has always led with working issues. Which is why he ends up getting a 10, 15, 20 percent crossover vote with Mango Mussolini, Mr. Trump.
He outperformed Kamala Harris by eight points. Only lost by three in 2024, and is running again. It think he should be the prototype. Let’s discuss!!
