My dad died from mesothelioma. There was never any certainty of where he was exposed, so it was assumed to be "job related". By the time you find out you have it, it is decades after first exposure.
All those workers (and their families if they go home in contaminated clothing) will not realize the danger until far into the future. Long after trumps and maga are gone.
I’m so sorry for your loss your loss. I lost my dad— lung cancer—age 58. Back in 1990. Mesothelioma was not on the radar at the time. But I have always wondered. And my brother and I worked in a fiberglass insulation factory for years—they said it couldn’t get into our bloodstream or affect us in ANY WAY… but I have COPD for Years now and I wonder if that COULD Play a PART of my issue with it (?!?!?!) I may never know. And yes I did smoke … I had quit but started again ugh! 😫
My mom was diagnosed with COPD, but it was attributed entirely to her having been a smoker. They never tested her for mesothelioma, which can only be diagnosed with specific testing. She washed my dad's soiled clothing for decades, so she may have had effects from that too.
Fiberglass can cause other issues, but is not the same as asbestos.
One of my cats died from suspected mesothelioma too. It is in lots of building materials, including vermiculite insulation. My parents had insulation sprayed into the walls sometime in the 80s, which could also have been the source.
I did not know there’s a specific test that can be done to detect it—-That’s Great! When I was a little kid we moved around the same area A LOT, and the houses were Old and Hard To Heat. We kids had to take buckets across the street to the railroad tracks and pick the coal that had fallen as fast as we could because we were not allowed over there . The railroad security would chase us! But every house we lived in had asbestos siding…. Ugh 😩
