We all have known how corrupt trump and all his obscenely wealthy buddies are. So it will be no surprise how deep and far the corruption goes. We elected a scumbag that brags about groping women, had sex with a porn star while his wife was pregnant, initiated a riot against his country and is a convicted felon. What did we expect??? He's gotten away with everything so far, but just maybe this will tilt the scale of justice.
“The pitch they made, it made sense,” Sarah told The Intercept. “Everyone knew it was going to be painful, but it was important … and they just wasted it all.”
“We sacrificed and we would continue to sacrifice because we understood what the stakes were. People’s health care was at stake,” said Delight Worthyn, 67, a SNAP recipient with lupus living in New Haven, Connecticut. “And that they would cave for nothing after we have all gone through this. … I only feel betrayed.”
And the money shot?
“Don’t talk about me and my food insecurity to justify kicking people like me off of my health care,” said Slansky, noting that Democrats seem not to have taken into account the overlap between SNAP recipients and people who receive Medicaid and their insurance through the Affordable Care Act. “It’s insane, and it’s insulting, and it’s also just so wildly out of touch.”
The folks on the ground? The ones who were DOING the suffering? They were the ones MOST behind the movement to stand firm. THEY were the ones who actually had skin in the game. And THEY wanted the Surrender Monkey Caucus™ to actually, FINALLY, FIGHT for them.
Sort of embarrassing to say, but I and the very health challenged man I live with are in that category of "needy recipients" also. So very scary for us...
No reason for you to ever be embarrassed. Life bites all of us in the ass one way or another. Some more obviously than others. My son and his wife work at least 2 jobs between them, but have a special needs son who relies on both SNAP and Medicaid and they're terrified that he's going to lose his benefits.
But even those of us that aren't DIRECTLY impacted don't get away scot free. With ACA subsidies collapsing, and ACA premiums skyrocketing, premiums for NON-ACA plans will go up along side them partly because ACA policy holders will get out of the marketplace, and return to the "Don't get sick, and if you do get sick die quickly Plan" (aka the Republican "replacement" for Obamacare) and return to using the ED as their primary care provider. This drives up fees, which in turn drives up premiums. But mostly our premiums will go up because they CAN. With no subsidies holding costs down, the competition disappears and with it the incentive to hold premiums down. Also? If you live in a rural area your local clinic/urgent care or even hospital will stand a good chance of folding entirely or being Borged by one of the monolithic Big Box Healthcare corporations.
I know this is of o comfort to you in the circumstances you're in, but just know you're not alone. And we ARE gonna fight, even if our chickenshit representatives won't.

A Democratic majority could impeach Fat Donny, but you can almost har the cries of “Lunatic Left Witch Hunt!” in 3… 2… 1… This will happen. So it needs to come out NOW, even if we’re still battling over it a year from now. We need the handwriting on the wall as soon as possible so it’s top of mind NOW for everybody.
