ICE Is Knocking on Democracy’s Door—And Democrats Are Still Tiptoeing Around…ENOUGH!

What the hell is going on in this country when armed federal agents storm a sitting Congressman’s office and handcuff a staff member for daring to provide refuge to peaceful protestors?? That’s not law enforcement—because as that phrase makes clear, that would require enforcing “law.” Nope. That’s some straight-up Stalinist bullshit, and it just happened in the United States of America (again).

Here’s the story. America’s low-rent Stasi busted into Rep. Jerry Nadler’s office on Wednesday uninvited, and quite literally un-warranted. And an aide to Rep. Jerry Nadler was detained like some kind of convicted criminal…you know, like Donald Trump. Why, you ask?

For letting immigration advocates take refuge there to escape harassment from these very same jack-booted thugs. The kind the NRA once saw around every corner, only to go legally blind now that they actually exist under Trump. You’ve seen these ICE meatheads, yes? So very confident in the lawfulness of their actions that they hide behind face coverings like they’re extras in a shitty 3rd sequel to “Young Guns.”

Roid-raged galoots lacking any identification, who barged into the office of an elected Congressman without a warrant, claiming they were “checking for rioters.” Uh huh. Line 1, please hold, we have a pile of horseshit on Line 2. And the thing is, as bad as this was—watch below for how aggressive and unhinged this extra-Y-chromosome unit was—it wasn’t a one-off, folks.

It was just another incident in what’s become an increasingly disturbing pattern. The Trump regime’s DHS, which habeas corpus Kristi runs with the coolheaded demeanor of Sonny Corleone and compassion of late-stage Walter White, has gone from enforcing immigration law to muscling elected officials. Has anyone checked Kristi’s knuckles for butterfly tattoos that resemble MS-13?

Not long ago, in Newark, Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested while peacefully protesting an ICE facility—on public property. Congresswoman LaMonica McIver was slapped with bogus assault charges for intervening in this clear abuse of power—by U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Alina Habba. Yes, the same Alina Habba you think it is, onetime unemployed poltroon and Mar-a-Lago mascot who now likes to play Law & Order, but with actual power.

So what’s Democratic leadership doing? Issuing sternly worded statements and tuneless tweets. Look, I’ve pointed out many times we have a new crop of fighting Democrats, from Swalwell to Stansbury, Booker to Beshear. But leadership, that’s a different story.

I’ve really tried to give the benefit of the doubt to House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, hoping he wouldn’t turn into another Chuck Schumer. And he’s had good moments, to be sure. But then he’s had what we could euphemistically call “other moments” where I can’t figure out what in the hell he’s thinking. This, sadly, was one of those.

In response to a blatant act of harassment, intimidation and an anti-Constitutional violation of freedom of speech, assembly and the separation of powers, this is what we got, from our House Democratic Leader: “We don’t work for Donald Trump.”

WHAT? This was your actual response to an out-of-control mob of febrile, fascist Ferdinand Marcos’ assaulting Democrats—Americans!—in a congressional office without a warrant or identification? Are you fucking kidding me?

Sorry, Congressman, we’re outta time for genteel badinage. If you’re not up to being a wartime leader, i.e. if you can’t bring yourself—who’s right there—to get as outraged as I am—who’s out here—please Step Aside. We’ve wasted way too much time already, and this country can’t afford House Democratic Leader Merrick Garland right now.

How would I have responded? I’m glad you asked. Off the top of my head…

Once again 34-count-felon Donald Trump—a convicted criminal—is using his corrupt, cruel and incompetent Administration to attack democracy, just as he did on January 6th. So, Mr. Trump, listen good: You will not do this again. We won’t allow it. My advice? Concentrate on helping farmers you’ve bankrupted and 401Ks you’ve destroyed with TACO tariffs. And pick up an audiobook of the Constitution.

Because, if your thugs step foot in one of my member’s offices again without a warrant and attempt to detain anyone, we’ll resist by any means necessary. I’ll call the police, FBI, Interpol if I must. But you’ll either follow the Constitution, or you’ll find yourself on your fat ass back in the place you seem most comfortable: Court.

Now was that so hard? Was it?? You know Trump won’t change anything without consequences. He’s incapable. So where are the subpoenas, hearings, investigations? Rallies to stir up public outrage, ads on tv in key congressional districts? Where is the fire? The mobilization? Trump’s goons are openly threatening to jail members of Congress, and Democratic leaders act like it’s just a bad headline on a normal day in our lovely democratic republic. What is it you need us to do so you understand this is a constitutional five-alarm fire? Please(!), take off the noise-cancelling headphones.

I also can’t fathom this response from the actual Congressman whose staffer was assaulted..I’ve always liked Jerry Nadler, I’ve met him a few times. But this is not even close to meeting this terrifying moment:

The incident was ‘troubling??” You were “alarmed!?” Is this a “Twighlight Zone” episode? We’re not having a policy disagreement, Rep. Nadler, we’re under siege. We need you to politically react to it like Elon Musk’s son did to his dad’s—at-the-time—normally colored eye. We have a lawless executive using the full force of government to attack political opponents. If you can’t find the passion, anger, guts to fight back now, when’s the plan to do so? After the next election? After Trump cancels the next election?

Get angry, my friends. Get loud. And start fighting back like our freedoms depend on it—because they do. Nadler, Jeffries, Schumer—whoever’s listening—your base doesn’t give two craps about decorum, we care about democracy. Disaffected Republicans and Independents feel much the same way. They want strength, they want to see you engage in this fight!

We’re looking for courage. Right now, not after breakfast. Trump’s people just handcuffed democracy’s staffer. What are you gonna do about it?

• Jake Tapper just nuked what little was left of his credibility. As we discussed in an earlier piece, after years of ignoring the elephant in the room—that Trump’s a fascist threat to democracy—Tapper chose this particular moment to write a book suggesting Joe Biden’s mentally unfit…And the result? His CNN show just hit its lowest ratings since 2015 and his book sales suck. Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.

• America isn’t buying what Tapper’s selling. His book (Original Sin, co-written with an Axios reporter) claims there was a massive cover-up of Biden’s mental decline. Cool. Now do the guy’s who’s actually President and ignoring laws, book-contract whore. Oh and the ratings tanking by 25% year-over-year? Crafty move! I guess the “disillusioned centrist” audience ain’t showing up, pal.

• While Tapper attacks Biden’s memory, he forgets his own complicity. This is the hairdo-with-a-human attached who downplayed Trump’s attempted coup and platformed election deniers. Now he’s—shocked!—viewers on both sides call him a fraud? Sorry Jake, you made your both-sides bed. Now you get to flop in it.
