I count among my ancestors a lotsa-greats grandfather William Cox, a Welsh Quaker who was one of the first [official] settlers of William Penn’s Pennsylvania. A rather different tradition than the Puritans.
And lately I’ve been finding myself once again emphasizing pacifism, with very few exceptions (supporting Ukraine’s fight over invasion is one ). To the point of putting a peace sign on my posters at rallies.
Maybe we need to bring that back as an alternate philosophy.
He actually created a farm in northern Delaware, where Hockessin is today, and also a Friends’ meeting house, which is still there along with the farmhouse.
I secretly cheer at every paragraph of bad news about our economy, industry, jobs, inflation, and financial havoc. I celebrate the loss of the Korean plant in Georgia, and the loss of all that investment (now and future) and the jobs that would have come with it. While I empathize with the people of Georgia who imagined that their arch-conservative governor and the wretched fellow party man in the White House would make their lives better, I also cannot avoid saying (quietly), "I told you so. FAFO. Boo. Hoo."
Mr. Trump dropped his pants for a kiss and a kick from our enemy North Korea's permanent, hereditary ruler, and he has now kicked out our ally South Korea for at least the rest of this decade and beyond (maybe a generation, unless a future Democratic administration takes back control of our democracy from the fascists).
So I will also be among those who cheer at every failing of this regime and its handmaids and quislings, who are too numerous to name.
Andy, your are so acerbic, vitriolic, and full of Schadenfreude and I love every line you wrote. I'm showing this to my wife so she will realize we are not alone in our appreciation of the H.L. Mencken quip: "Americans know what they want, and I hope they get it, good and hard."
Thank you, Pat. When I read the first ten words of your comment in my inbox, I cringed -- but kept reading, thank the lord and the goddess! I hope your wife likes it, too.
So was the ICE raid on the battery plant in GA a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing? It didn’t make sense given Trump’s interest in foreign investment. These visas were probably obtained under Biden. Does the govt think it has to undo everything Biden did? It is silly to declare perfectly legal visas illegal. And to drive away a huge investment. I wouldn’t blame South Korea if it refused to operate in the US anymore.
White Supremacists are deeply ignorant human beings. They should be wearing signs hanging from their bodies where it is written in large Red letters, and it says, "I'M IGNORANT AND PROUD OF IT!!!!"
It is always a wonder to me that MAGAs believe that they are part of the "White Elites" that they envision controlling society. When will they understand that their "Elite" leaders consider them part of "the great unwashed" who are destined to be "poor, broke and subservient"?
The most underreported, if not outright ignored, aspect of MAGA, Trump, and really the entire GOP, is that their entire m.o. is white supremacy. I'm old enough to remember when that fact wasn't so evident.

(And keep writing; I look forward to your posts.)
My maternal line were also Quakers who lived in Pennsylvania for a time. The Coate family. Perhaps our ancestors were friends. I’d like to think so!

Good article!

Money cost or moral cost or both?
Definitely both. No doubt about it.

Spot on article!

Good article! We are all losing big time except of course the elites.
If Congress would change our idiotic and archaic immigration laws things like this wouldn't happen
