Hi Doctor! I actually have a question. What do you think of Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs?

I think Mark is trying to do what needs to be done — undercut the PBMs and offer medications at their true cost. He doesn’t need the money. He’s spoken about this in podcasts and interviews. He formed Cost Plus to help those that needed Rx help.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly! I admired what Mark is doing when I heard him talk about it, but I didn't trust myself not to be naive. So many of the billionaires we're seeing right now just seem to be out for more for themselves, and here's this man who wants to make things better and more affordable for others! It's so refreshing to see real person of wealth who acts like Dolly Levi's late husband whom she always quotes: "Money is like manure. It only does any good when you spread it around." It's my favorite movie quote. I do wish I could act on it, and Mark Cuban is doing exactly that!

Tread lightly.

I often wonder whether the AMA is sympathetic to the grievances and frustrations doctors must face in their mission to deliver life saving care to their patients.

The AMA is certainly aware of the grievances—they have the data, and their lobbyists speak the language of physician frustration fluently. However, there is often a disconnect between their high-level advocacy in D.C. and the "trench warfare" doctors face in daily practice.
