For two years, Bernie Moreno said nothing. His daughter, Emily, has said that her then-husband, Representative Max Miller, threw scalding water at her, put a gun to her head while she was changing their baby, and broke her collarbone. Stephanie Grisham, formerly of the Trump White House, called Miller an abuser. Moreno, now a United States senator, stayed quiet through all of it. Then Miller’s approval fell to roughly 25 percent, a Democrat pulled ahead by five points in a district Republicans should never have to defend, and Moreno abruptly discovered his voice.
