It's August 2001 Again, and We're Watching Sharks

NATO is massing on the Baltic. We're arguing about Meghan Markle.

Julie Roginsky came on Tequila Talk with a story almost nobody in American media was touching: for the better part of a week, NATO has been massing serious force around Kaliningrad, and no one will explain why.

  • The buildup nobody will explain. Polish ground troops, British naval power, Danish forces, and United States Air Force aircraft, including a platform that just came online. Not a scheduled exercise. NATO has offered no reason at all.

  • Roginsky’s theory, and she calls it a theory. There is a run on Russian banks and gas lines in Moscow. The war has finally reached the people Putin spent three years protecting from it. What does a cornered leader do about that?

  • The probes nobody added up. Drones into Poland and Romania. An airport shut down in Denmark. Von der Leyen’s plane losing GPS. A bomb at Leipzig that did not go off. Julie walks the pattern and names the next target.
