I've said this before, but in case you guys don't know it...you are both great and I learn from you every time I watch. Also, I do not believe all Jewish/Israaeli people should be attacked/blamed for Netanyahu's behavior...just as all Americans should not be blamed for Trump's behavior. I must admit that I am not happy with those who voted him in again!

Cheryl Drury's avatar

All Jewish people are not attacked, they are respected and kind. It’s the Zionist. No matter what they say hating Zionist, Jewish supremacist, is not antisemitism.

Hope Crescione's avatar

I never said that they were...I just said that they shouldn't be. My comment was a response to the discussion taking place.

Mike Vogel's avatar

Zionism just means believing that Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state, with self-determination, just like the 28 Muslim states surrounding it do. Please stop trying to demonize it.

Cheryl Drury's avatar

They demonize themselves by their actions. The Muslim states around them have defined borders, why doesn’t Israel?

Brian's avatar

All jewish people are not responsible for Netanyahu's behavior (Judaism is a religion, Israel is a country). I do believe all Americans are responsible for Trump's behavior. Forgiving past bad behavior, pardoning Nixon, being slow to prosecute Jan 6 insurgents, not offering a good alternative to Trump, and VOTING FOR HIM! all contributed to his crimes.

Hope Crescione's avatar

You are so right! And they saddled the rest of us with this nightmare...as well as the rest of the world!

Cliff...my heritage is half Italian and half WASP, and I have two daughters whose names are right out of the Old Testament. Some of my Italian relatives commented that I gave my children Jewish names. My response was,,,doesn't their Bible have an Old Testament?

This is exactly why we, the US, needs to pause everything and reassess! It’s not just Israel, we are supporting other causes with subsidies and monies to other nations. We need to stop sending money to places that are using the money to oppress any group of people! We can reassess and send monies on limited basis to support those being oppressed instead. Let’s not criticize our own but instead, offer constructive feedback

Cliff Schecter's avatar

Agreed. And that was a point that I was making. All of them with no biases.

I really appreciated the show today, especially the part with Dean. It's too bad his internet stopped working and you lost him. That's not to say that you and David were not appreciated! You two always inform me and make me smarter. I wanted to share something funny that happened with my closed captions during your show. In naming the the PM of Israel, he was Net and yahoo! That gave me a fit of giggles. 😄

Cliff Schecter's avatar

Thank you Donna. And my autocorrect does the same thing!

People need to spend a day in the Holocaust Museum in D.C. We used to take our sixth graders there on the annual D.C. trip.

Teri Melof's avatar

It did seem like you attacked Crystal. I appreciated your apology to her.

Cliff Schecter's avatar

I’m human like anyone, and we all have moments. When I do, I try to take responsibility and make sure ppl know

Teri Melof's avatar

I would really like to engage with you on this subject, but don't know how to if you're live?

Cliff Schecter's avatar

Entering the chat is easiest, but we can find other ways like right here

Thanks for the excellent program and the list of the other horrific mass murders in other countries. Add to those The Killing Fields of Cambodia and the massacres in Rwanda of Tutsis.

Cliff Schecter's avatar

I appreciate your sharing these. I was mostly sharing current ones, but I did say Bosnia I think. It is important people be educated on every time a group was dehumanized and mass murdered to prevent it in the future. Thx Fran

Joan M Sabin's avatar

And the mass murders continuing to occur in the States.

Not voting for the Democrat empowers the Republicans.

Cliff Schecter's avatar

I’ve taken this stance every election. Wrt the NY primaries, I’d vote for Brad Lander in a sec, even disagreeing w him on things. Valdez, I’d need an explanation/apology that’s believable for her liking a pro-Oct 7 post.

But I won’t vote for someone who wants me dead. Chevalier, one day after the largest pogrom since The Holocaust: live streamed rape, murder—by burning ppl alive, kids killed in front of parents—celebrated it.

She may as well be MAGA. If I lived there, she would never get my vote.

Diana Fenton's avatar

Did you just say that there isn’t a genocide.? Happening as we speak by the far right Zionist leader Netanyahu.???

Cliff Schecter's avatar

If you’re talking to me I didn’t say that. I explained why i say *war crimes* or *mass murder* instead, to not play into centuries old blood libel about Jews committing a *genocide* by drinking the blood of Christian babies. I use other words to convey the same thought. I also lay the blame where it belongs, with war criminal Netanyahu, and not all Israelis.

Joan M Sabin's avatar

Wow I’ve never heard of Jews committing a genocide by drinking the blood of Christian babies. Must be Evangelical Christians never heard in all my years as a Catholic. Agree Netanyahu and his band of unmerry men are war criminals. The only country he can travel to is US. He would be arrested elsewhere. Seems though some of the IDF leadership is falling in line. MDs who have served in Gaza from States and elsewhere reported deaths of children with single gunshot wounds to head or chest as if targeted. Read article that was disturbing. A Jewish friend recently said to me that it was a hard time to be a Jew in America. Broke my heart to hear.

Diana Fenton's avatar

lol, I went to catholic school and had never heard that term before either. Sorry, did everyone forget that Christ was Jewish not a Zionist.

Diana Fenton's avatar

Oh never heard that said. Thanks for clarifying. I wasn’t accusing anyone I asked a question for clarification.

Cliff Schecter's avatar

Thanks for being open to the conversation. That's all I am asking, Diana. I'm not defending Bibi--I loathe that war criminal w every ounce of my being. I just don't want the rest of us dragged down w him

Diana Fenton's avatar

Okay don’t laugh but am vision impaired so I’m never sure who is speaking. But, I like the sound of your voice it has a deep resonance like good smoky whiskey. Not that whiskey makes sound only the person who has had a few drinks. Anyway my misunderstood question got a strong response.

Cheryl Drury's avatar

Complicity with a statement is the same thing. My red line is genocide deniers

Cliff Schecter's avatar

I’ll say the same thing I said to Diane: If you’re talking to me I didn’t deny anything.

Cheryl Drury's avatar

Israel is the most polled population. 80% of them agree with what is happening in Gaza and the war in Iran. Under these circumstances you cannot convince me this is simply a Netanyahu problem, the state itself is broken.

Cliff Schecter's avatar

Cheryl 1) you said we weredefending genocide. Did you read Lawrence’s piece?? He called it a Holocaust. I called it war-crimes/mass murder. The only one not to say this was Joe Walsh. He isn’t part of BAM.

2) Ok, polls: 72% of Palestinians supported Hamas’ attack on Oct 7,when they live streamed mass rape, burning ppl alive, mowing down kids at a peace festival. Killing kids in front of parents, parents in front of kids, kidnapped scores of ppl. Biggest mass pogrom since the Holocaust.

Yet, I don’t hold Palestinians responsible. That’s collective blame. 28% weren’t in favor, I appreciate them—collective blame means targeting them. But you openly support collective blame for all Israelis?

Even though the most recent polling—not polling just post their 9/11—has 66% of Israelis wanting to end the war in Gaza (strong majorities want a buffer zone, not shocking post-Oct 7). 3) You/I killed Alex Peretti I guess? Trump won 49% + the EC. Collective blame means we both did it.

Mike Vogel's avatar

Polls show that 90% of Gazans support the Hamas terrorists. 60% also believe that anyone who leaves the Muslim religion should get the death penalty.

I'm curious about your thoughts about those numbers.

Cheryl Drury's avatar

I can tell where you stand based on how you framed the question, so I will do the same. If there is a group that is fighting to protect my family and myself from invaders that want to mercilessly abuse and kill everyone I love I’d support them too.

Israel is a terrorist, rapist apartheid state. Being a US citizen seeing what is happening under this current regime, using methods Israel practiced, technology developed by Israel for Palestine, I recognize that we are all becoming Palestinians now.

I watched an interview with a strong woman from Lebanon today. She was saying Hezbollah was the only thing protecting families and people there. She loved them. Am I supposed to hate them too? They aren’t terrorist, they’re defending from hostile invading forces.

Jacqueline Yvette Hardy's avatar

Yes, that is exactly what dean has been saying. I’m out here everyday with all types of people, a lot of them Jewish. We are fighting for democracy. I have never heard anyone disparage the Jewish community. I am unfollowing all these people. It’s almost as if they’re instigating something on purpose.

Diana Fenton's avatar

I wasn’t responding to Dean who I follow daily. It was the other guy that made the comment about there not being a genocide which is why I asked the question. I was trying to clarify if I understood him correctly. Thanks

Diana Fenton's avatar

I didn’t write this nor do I agree that Israel cares about killing civilians. They never have. I don’t support Netanyahu or his far right Zionists who are committing genocide in Palestine and Lebanon. And I have a friend who has lived in Israel and agrees with me.

Paige Van Pelt's avatar

There is no debate as to whether there is a genocide. I stand with the left.

Mike Vogel's avatar

You're right, there is no debate. Hamas committed a genocide, and is proud of it. Israel is at war, and working hard to avoid civilian deaths, even as Hamas establishes bases in hospitals and schools trying to maximize such deaths for political (and profitable) purpose. They hide in their underground shelters while barring civilians from entering, then calling them martyrs when they are killed. You "stand with the left?" I stand with the truth.

Diana Fenton's avatar

There has never ever been a nano second that I bought that the Zionist state of Israel under Netanyahu is careful about not hurting innocent children, women, men. No one is safe from torture, sexual assault, starvation and genocide.

Israel is a welfare state of America! And it is time for the money and military aid to stop 100%America wants Israel OUT of our government and politics and media. And we don’t want our taxes going to the genocide that Israel is committing in Palestine and Lennon.! NOW!!!

I think the extreme far right Zionist party has committed a holocaust the same as the Nazi racist far right party did to not just Jews but anyone they felt were inferior to their white Christian heritage. The racism and xenophobia is the same and Israel is as guilty for the same unspeakable crimes against humanity.! My friends who lived in Israel are in agreement to this statement.!!!

Mike Vogel's avatar

If you have friends in Israel, they don't agree with your one-sided, bigoted and incorrect remarks about Israel--even if you use four exclamation points!!!

LG, a man in good faith, I’ll respond more when I can—for now: The Nazis said they were National Socialist—*NOT socialist. The Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea? Not “democratic” or for “people.”

Zionism has a meaning. Popularized by Theodor Herzl, a liberal; Ben Gurion, a socialist, was Zionist. It = Jewish self determination/survival—1 country, just 1, where Jews know thet won’t be gassed/pogromed.

No matter what Bibi calls himself doesn’t make it true. Trump says he’s “like, really smart.” Do we accept that too?

Mike Vogel's avatar

Using the word Zionist to describe "the right wing, out of control government of Israel" is like using MAGA to describe what the word American means. You described Zionism exactly in your second sentence: "The Jewish people certainly deserve a homeland, and to live there in peace." That is exactly what I believe when I say I am a Zionist, as do 95% of the Jewish people. Let's stop demonizing the word, which leads to attacks on Jews worldwide.
