Cornell…AGAIN?

What the hell is going on with Cornell University these days? Seriously. I try not to judge too quickly, but one huge ethical error that becomes a public nightmare per year really ought to be enough—a second one means we’re starting to see a pattern.

Full disclosure: I’m closely connected to Cornell (though if you’ve read my regular critiques of my high school, I suspect you’ll have confidence I won’t hold back). My mom’s as an active alum as she can be at her age. I grew up going to reunions. And Cornell was one of my top two choices when it came time to attend college. I was accepted somehow (drunk admissions officer?), but ended up going to my other choice.

Now let’s get to the sickening story. I’ll first remind you a Cornell student replied to a job interview by saying he “didn’t want to work for Jews.” His own parents kicked him out of their house. Cornell…was fine letting him come back to school the next year, with no punishment I’ve been made aware of.

Even knowing that, this is shocking:

Look, it’s very possible that because of the healing process she didn’t provide enough information for charges to be brought against these thugs. But where the F’s Cornell? I’ve seen no explanation as to why they didn’t follow up on the “incident” when it happened, and no statement today. Perhaps they made one. But should I really have to search for it? Shouldn’t it be everywhere?

(Please share it in the comments if you see it.)

I hope the SOBs get everything coming to them (yes, I’m assuming guilt, because I’m a man who saw and heard things in college and since—and I believe women). But I’ll also look at this with a slightly skeptical—innocent-til-proven-guilty—eye that comes with my former role on the Board of The Ohio Innocence Project. And if I’m wrong, I’ll be the first to admit it.

None of this excuses the moral absentee landlord Cornell University seems to have become.

Trump Begs for Votes in Iowa

Trump went to Iowa to lie about new jobs coming to the state in, get this, 2030. Uh, huh. There’s no point in going into deep detail. It’s a $15MM steel plant. It’s not a U.S., but Indian-owned company, of course. Also, of course, it would be Iowa, where Trump looks like he’s about to lose a governor’s race, senator’s race, and at least two U.S. House seats. And I’d bet you almost anything (hmm, maybe I hit Polymarket, get in early) it never even comes close to being built. I live in Ohio, we’ve been through Trump’s “we’re building a plant!” psychological pyromania targeted at workers.

It never happens.

This Week’s Entertainment!

We’ll be doing our usual assortment of shows this week, though I do apologize some changing schedules have had us a bit on the fly lately. But as of this moment, we’re looking at:

• The Epstein Update, w Kait Justice & Cliff Schecter. We provide Kait’s newest investigations and dots she’s connected to current policy and Trumpism. And insight I (too often) add having grown up in these circles.

  • This week we are taking off from The Epstein Update; we’re back next week!

• Amped Up w/ Cliff Schecter (& David Shuster), Weds 2pm et. Our flagship show each week. This week we have an amazing guest, Andrea Chalupa! You may know her from..many things. The very popular Gaslit Nation podcast, numerous books she’s written and even a major film she wrote and helped produce:

Andrea has a new book, “Reasonable Guide For Unreasonable Women,” which is awesome like all her other books. And guess what? 3 Paid Subscribers In The Live Chat, Chosen At Random, Will Get Free Signed Copies! You Must Be A Paid Subscriber To Enter! SO DO THAT NOW!

• World War Next w/ Olga Lautman, Jacob Kaarsbro & Cliff Schecter. Thurs 1pm et. What do you get when you add a brilliant former spy who still has his networks intact, one of the top followers/translators of Russian propaganda and a former State Department consultant on democracy-promotion and civil-war prevention with expert media & communications strategies? All while Putin is raising the temperature in Europe? A helluva interesting show you wanna watch!

• Tequila Talk w/ Joe Walsh & Cliff Schecter. Thurs 5pm et. One of our original shows that has remained one of our most popular. Former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh, a Never-Trumper, Republican joins Cliff Schecter, an independent-minded Democrat to have fun conversations in a Thursday Happy Hour style meant to be a big lighter but still cover serious topics. Joe and Cliff sip tequila—a love of both of theirs—during the show. It’s hard to have a better time on a Live Stream

• The Blue Letter. Thursday am: Cliff’s private memo for Paid Subscribers will come out with what he has heard from contacts in DC and around the country. Where races are. Where money is being spent. Where mistakes are being made. All for those who invest in this newsletter, supporting our ability to do this.

• Cliff is planning to start doing a weekly Live with Paid Subscribers. 3 chosen at random will get to come on live and ask questions. We have to plan it when most can do it. So let’s start with: Would you rather do it during the day or early evening, after work’s over? Once we have this established we can pick a day…

UPCOMING

Susan Collins. She frowns A WHOLE LOT, is “concerned” often, but has enabled Trump (Strike 1) and voted for Brett Kavanaugh to join The Supreme Court and end Roe (Strike 2). Well, now we have a report by Pro-Publica that she engaged in a pay-to-play scheme where her SuperPAC took half a million or more in donations from defense contractor Navatek, for stuff “we didn’t need.” It seems she was involved in a pay to play scheme, and she might be in the pokey right now if Trump hadn’t won, as he fired the Justice Department figures running the massive public corruption investigation into Collins and others.

I worked against Collins in 2002, know a lot of the insiders there, and will have a piece coming combining my experience and knowledge from living there with who she really is, why this was predictable, and whether a non-Trump Administration could bring up the charges again.

THE HIT:

Luckily Troy Jackson is winning. We can end Collins’ way-too-long tenure. Make sure to vote for Jackson if you’re in Maine, convince anyone you know to vote for Jackson, donate, volunteer, make phone calls and post on social media.

Hey, wanna see an adorable cat?

Here he is, the capo di tutti capi of tuna-eating kitties. Steve (short for Stephen Tyler)
